Since the incident in the zoo, everyone in the Orphanage torment and torture Roxie. They did not allow her to join them for any activities that Mrs. Annie organized which involved sorting into groups. When they were much younger they made fun of her being weird and all. Once they played a prank on her which nearly cost her, her life. She was rushed to the hospital. Doctors tried everything they could to heal her but the treatment did not responded at all. Doctors gave up and wanted to announce that she will die. But a strange blue light shone around her. No one knows where the light came from. The next day, Roxie was completely healed. The doctors had no clue how she manage to survive. It was a miracle. Those who were involve with the prank ended up have bruises, injures and sickness.
Roxie was used to being alone. She did not care nor be bothered about what was happening around the orphanage. She spend her time reading books and kept herself away from the other children. One fine day in July, she was reading a book under a tree near the orphanage play ground, hoping to get away from the other children from tormenting her. But it didn’t work.
‘Hey Roxie!’ said a boy, who was heading towards her. He was two years her senior.
‘What do you want Jack?’ Roxie asked, sounding annoyed. That was his name.
‘Weird things always happen because of you. Why don’t you just leave this place and ran away from here, so that everyone here can live in peace.’ He always come and annoys her.
‘Why don’t you stop disturbing me and leave me alone?’
‘Why should I?’ said Jack, looking cool. ‘You should listen to me as I am your senior. More likely, you should be my slave.’
Roxie got pissed and badly wanted to punched him but someone called her. It was her caretaker, Mrs. Annie.
‘Roxie! Come here!’ she called out.
‘Looks like you are in it for trouble,’ Jack laughed.
Roxie said noting more and headed toward Mrs. Annie, wondering what she wanted.
‘You have a visitor. He is upstairs waiting in your room,’ said Mrs. Annie.
‘A visitor?’ Roxie repeated. ‘Who is it?’
‘His name is Dumderbor. Wait- his name is Domderdor… he is here to see you.’
‘Okay…’ Roxie answered and made her way to the room. Who is he? And why does he want to see me? She thought.
Roxie walked the door of her room which was on the third floor of the orphanage. She opened the door of her room and found an old man, wearing glasses, had long beard and dressed in grey robes, sitting on a chair that was in the room.
‘How do you do, Roxie?’ said the old man, getting up from the chair, walking forward to her and holding out his right hand.
‘Fine thank you sir,’ Roxie replied nervously, shaking his hand.
‘Come, come, and take a seat,’ said the old man. Roxie sat on her bed while the old man sat back on the chair he was sitting.
‘My name is Professor Dumbledore.’
‘A professor?’ Roxie exclaimed. ‘Isn’t that something like a doctor? Did she send you here because of all the weird things had happen?’ Roxie asked nervously. She did not want to go to the mental hospital.
‘No, no,’ said Dumbledore, smiling. ‘I am here to offer you a place in my school, your new school if you like to come.’
‘School?’ Roxie asked in surprised. ‘What kind of school?’
‘Hogwarts.’ He answered. ‘A place for gifted children.’
‘I’m not mad!’ said Roxie in defend. ‘Am I?’
‘I know you are not mad. Hogwarts is a school of Magic,’
‘Magic?’
‘Yes,’ Dumbledore nodded.
‘I don’t believe in it. Those so called magician only know how to create illusion by using tricks.’ She said. ‘I can show the magician the entire tricks they could do.’
‘But we are different from those magicians. We are wizard and witches who can perform real magic.’ Dumbledore explained.
‘Wizards and witches?’ Roxie repeated. ‘But there isn’t any of those people. .. Weren’t they burned to death long time ago?’
Dumbledore smiled. Roxie find it weird talking to him about it. How can there be wizards and witches? They should not exist anymore.
‘That… they have created illusion for the muggles to believe that they die.’ Dumbledore explain.
‘Are you a wizard, sir?’
‘Yes I am.’
‘Can you prove it to me?’
‘I take it you accept the place in my school?’
‘Yes sir.’ Roxie nodded.
Dumbledore flicked his wand and the bed that Roxie was sitting turned into a small stool. Roxie rubbed her eyes and touch the stool she was sitting on. It’s real. There isn’t any illusion. She thought. With another flick, Dumbledore turned the stool back to her bed.
‘Where can I get one sir?’ she asked, pointing at his wand.
‘You can get one in Diagon Alley together with your school robes and books,’ said Dumbledore. ‘I have your list of books and school equipment here with me. I could help find everything you need.’
‘You’re coming with me?’ Roxie’s sapphire eyes sparkled.
‘Certainly if you want me to.’
‘Very much sir.’
‘Alright, tomorrow I will come over to pick you up. You might want to pack your things as you will be staying at a motel in Diagon Alley until your school starts. I’ll give you your list tomorrow when I pick you up.’
Roxie nodded, she was happy to get out of the orphanage.
‘Were my parents wizards?’ Roxie asked. ‘Did they abandon me?’
‘Your parents were wizard and witch and no, they did not abandon you. They were killed.’ Dumbledore answered sadly.
Roxie gasped. She could not believe that her parents were killed. She never thought it that way.
‘Who killed them sir?’
‘I will tell you when the time comes. For now, you might want to pack your things and have a good rest till tomorrow.’
‘Yes sir,’ Roxie nodded, wishing that she knew more about her parents. ‘Sir, is it common for wizard or witch to speak with snakes?’ Roxie asked her final question. ‘I can speak to them. They can understand me as I understand them.’
‘It‘s not common, but not unheard of.’ Dumbledore smiled. He stuck out his hand. Roxie shook it and smiled. ‘Goodbye Roxie. I shall see you tomorrow and you will not tell any of you muggle friends about our world.’
‘Yes sir, but they are not my friends. They always make fun of me and hurt me whenever they can,’ said Roxie, looking down.
With that, Dumbledore nodded and left the orphanage. Roxie was too excited about her new school. She packed most of her stuff into a trunk.
‘So I heard that you are going to a new school,’ said a cold voice.
‘What do you want Jack?’ said Roxie as she noticed that he entered her room.
‘Well, I am glad that you will be gone. Then noting weird will happen.’
‘Ya ya ya… happy for you all. Whatever. Get out!’ Roxie shouted. She was pissed with him.
‘Fine…’ said Jack and he left her room.
Roxie packed all her things, place her trunk under her bed and jumped onto her bed. She could not wait for tomorrow to come.
