An Unexpected Visitor

Since the incident in the zoo, everyone in the Orphanage torment and torture Roxie. They did not allow her to join them for any activities that Mrs. Annie organized which involved sorting into groups. When they were much younger they made fun of her being weird and all. Once they played a prank on her which nearly cost her, her life. She was rushed to the hospital. Doctors tried everything they could to heal her but the treatment did not responded at all. Doctors gave up and wanted to announce that she will die. But a strange blue light shone around her. No one knows where the light came from. The next day, Roxie was completely healed. The doctors had no clue how she manage to survive. It was a miracle. Those who were involve with the prank ended up have bruises, injures and sickness.

Roxie was used to being alone. She did not care nor be bothered about what was happening around the orphanage. She spend her time reading books and kept herself away from the other children. One fine day in July, she was reading a book under a tree near the orphanage play ground, hoping to get away from the other children from tormenting her. But it didn’t work.

‘Hey Roxie!’ said a boy, who was heading towards her. He was two years her senior.

‘What do you want Jack?’ Roxie asked, sounding annoyed. That was his name.

‘Weird things always happen because of you. Why don’t you just leave this place and ran away from here, so that everyone here can live in peace.’ He always come and annoys her.

‘Why don’t you stop disturbing me and leave me alone?’

‘Why should I?’ said Jack, looking cool. ‘You should listen to me as I am your senior. More likely, you should be my slave.’

Roxie got pissed and badly wanted to punched him but someone called her. It was her caretaker, Mrs. Annie.

‘Roxie! Come here!’ she called out.

‘Looks like you are in it for trouble,’ Jack laughed.

Roxie said noting more and headed toward Mrs. Annie, wondering what she wanted.

‘You have a visitor. He is upstairs waiting in your room,’ said Mrs. Annie.

‘A visitor?’ Roxie repeated. ‘Who is it?’

‘His name is Dumderbor. Wait- his name is Domderdor… he is here to see you.’

‘Okay…’ Roxie answered and made her way to the room. Who is he? And why does he want to see me? She thought.

Roxie walked the door of her room which was on the third floor of the orphanage. She opened the door of her room and found an old man, wearing glasses, had long beard and dressed in grey robes, sitting on a chair that was in the room.

‘How do you do, Roxie?’ said the old man, getting up from the chair, walking forward to her and holding out his right hand.

‘Fine thank you sir,’ Roxie replied nervously, shaking his hand.

‘Come, come, and take a seat,’ said the old man. Roxie sat on her bed while the old man sat back on the chair he was sitting.

‘My name is Professor Dumbledore.’

‘A professor?’ Roxie exclaimed. ‘Isn’t that something like a doctor? Did she send you here because of all the weird things had happen?’ Roxie asked nervously. She did not want to go to the mental hospital.

‘No, no,’ said Dumbledore, smiling. ‘I am here to offer you a place in my school, your new school if you like to come.’

‘School?’ Roxie asked in surprised. ‘What kind of school?’

‘Hogwarts.’ He answered. ‘A place for gifted children.’

‘I’m not mad!’ said Roxie in defend. ‘Am I?’

‘I know you are not mad. Hogwarts is a school of Magic,’

‘Magic?’

‘Yes,’ Dumbledore nodded.

‘I don’t believe in it. Those so called magician only know how to create illusion by using tricks.’ She said. ‘I can show the magician the entire tricks they could do.’

‘But we are different from those magicians. We are wizard and witches who can perform real magic.’ Dumbledore explained.

‘Wizards and witches?’ Roxie repeated. ‘But there isn’t any of those people. .. Weren’t they burned to death long time ago?’

Dumbledore smiled. Roxie find it weird talking to him about it. How can there be wizards and witches? They should not exist anymore.

‘That… they have created illusion for the muggles to believe that they die.’ Dumbledore explain.

‘Are you a wizard, sir?’

‘Yes I am.’

‘Can you prove it to me?’

‘I take it you accept the place in my school?’

‘Yes sir.’ Roxie nodded.

Dumbledore flicked his wand and the bed that Roxie was sitting turned into a small stool. Roxie rubbed her eyes and touch the stool she was sitting on. It’s real. There isn’t any illusion. She thought. With another flick, Dumbledore turned the stool back to her bed.

‘Where can I get one sir?’ she asked, pointing at his wand.

‘You can get one in Diagon Alley together with your school robes and books,’ said Dumbledore. ‘I have your list of books and school equipment here with me. I could help find everything you need.’

‘You’re coming with me?’ Roxie’s sapphire eyes sparkled.

‘Certainly if you want me to.’

‘Very much sir.’

‘Alright, tomorrow I will come over to pick you up. You might want to pack your things as you will be staying at a motel in Diagon Alley until your school starts. I’ll give you your list tomorrow when I pick you up.’

Roxie nodded, she was happy to get out of the orphanage.

‘Were my parents wizards?’ Roxie asked. ‘Did they abandon me?’

‘Your parents were wizard and witch and no, they did not abandon you. They were killed.’ Dumbledore answered sadly.

Roxie gasped. She could not believe that her parents were killed. She never thought it that way.

‘Who killed them sir?’

‘I will tell you when the time comes. For now, you might want to pack your things and have a good rest till tomorrow.’

‘Yes sir,’ Roxie nodded, wishing that she knew more about her parents. ‘Sir, is it common for wizard or witch to speak with snakes?’ Roxie asked her final question. ‘I can speak to them. They can understand me as I understand them.’

‘It‘s not common, but not unheard of.’ Dumbledore smiled. He stuck out his hand. Roxie shook it and smiled. ‘Goodbye Roxie. I shall see you tomorrow and you will not tell any of you muggle friends about our world.’

‘Yes sir, but they are not my friends. They always make fun of me and hurt me whenever they can,’ said Roxie, looking down.

With that, Dumbledore nodded and left the orphanage. Roxie was too excited about her new school. She packed most of her stuff into a trunk.

‘So I heard that you are going to a new school,’ said a cold voice.

‘What do you want Jack?’ said Roxie as she noticed that he entered her room.

‘Well, I am glad that you will be gone. Then noting weird will happen.’

‘Ya ya ya… happy for you all. Whatever. Get out!’ Roxie shouted. She was pissed with him.

‘Fine…’ said Jack and he left her room.

Roxie packed all her things, place her trunk under her bed and jumped onto her bed. She could not wait for tomorrow to come.

The Orphanage

It was near after ten years since Mrs. Annie took in the abandon baby girl into the orphanage. Noting has change mush during the ten years. All that was ever changed were the orphan children growing up in the orphanage.

Yet the baby girl was alive, sleeping in a room alone from the other orphanage children. But not for long, their caretaker was wide awake. She was going from room to room, waking them up.

‘Up!’ she shouted.

Everyone groaned. They didn’t feel like getting up.

‘Come on, get up!’ she shouted again. ‘Or have you forgotten that today is our first trip to the zoo?’

At the word “zoo”, all children jumped out of their bed and started to rush to the bathroom. The young girl, who was sleeping alone, reluctantly got down from her bed and slowly walked to the bathroom. She didn’t look excited at all, unlike the other children who were talking excitedly about the trip.

Once everyone got dressed, they took a quick breakfast at the dining hall. Mrs. Annie counted them as they line up in two straight lines. One was missing; the youngest of them all was Roxie Roxas.

‘Hurry up Roxie!’ shouted her caretaker. ‘We will be late because of you.’

Roxie quickly walked towards the entrance and line up behind the other children. She didn’t want to be the reason they were late. The children got up the bus. Roxie took a seat at the end of the bus, staring outside as Mrs. Annie started saying the rules and regulations.

It was a very sunny day, and the zoo was crowded with families. Many children were running around excitingly as their parents tried to keep up with them, afraid that they will get lost. Some dragged their parents around.

Roxie watched the other children, enjoying themselves with their parents. A part of her wished she could experience to be loved like that but from what she knew was all the while she was in the orphanage. Roxie reluctantly followed the other children and went into the zoo.

They had lunch at the zoo restaurant. Mrs. Annie treated them a large burger each. Something or someone caught Roxie’s eyes. There was a family nearby their table. A black hair boy, around her age, wearing glasses had a lightning bolt scar on his forehead. The boy looked noting similar to the parent but the fat boy who was sitting next to him does. He’s could be his cousin. Thought Roxie.

After lunch, they went to the reptile park. Roxie enjoyed watching the reptile animals. She loves looking at snakes. Once, a snake entered the Orphanage playground. Everyone was terrified except Roxie. The snake obeyed every of her command. However Mrs. Annie had wildlife hunters captured and took away the snake. Roxie was devastated every since.

Roxie found a big boa at one of the tanks. She was admiring the beauty of it as it was very big. However, she was pushed away from the tank by a fat boy and his friend. To her surprised, she was helped up by another boy who was wearing glasses.

‘Sorry about that.’ He apologized. ‘Dudley likes to do that all the time.’

It’s the boy from earlier. She thought. ‘It’s alright. Thanks.’

‘Come on, move!’ said the Dudley boy, looking bored and frustrated. His father tapped on the glass, trying to get the boa to move.

‘Do it again,’ Dudley commanded. Once again his father tapped the glass but the boa didn’t move one bit.

Roxie could tell that the snake could not be bothered by them. She was happy when they decided to leave. She walked back to the tank, to her surprised the boy followed her too.

‘Sorry about that,’ he said, looking at the snake. The boa looked up to him as if he understood him.

‘You understand him?’ Roxie asked, pointed at the boy. The boa nodded. Both children looked surprised.

‘So where are you from?’ the boy asked the boa.

The boa used its tail and pointed at the sign. Boa Constrictor Brazil.

‘Was it nice there?’ Roxie asked.

Again the snake pointed at the sign which Roxie and the boy read on. This specimen was bred in the zoo. ‘Oh I see, means you never been to Brazil?’

The boa shook its head. Roxie felt bad for it. ‘I know how it feels,’ she said. A defending sound behind Roxie and the boy made them both jumped. ‘DUDLEY! MR DUSLEY! COME AND LOOK AT THE SNAKE! YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHAT IT’S DOING!’

The Dudley boy came wadding towards them as fast as he could.

‘Out of my way, you!’ he said, punching the boy at the ribs, and knocked Roxie causing her to fall again. Caught y surprised, Roxie fell hard on the floor. She gave a dead stare at the boy. What happen so fast, one second the Dudley boy and friend were leaning right up so close to the glass, the next moment, they had leapt back with howls of horror.

The boy who was wearing glasses, gasped. The glass front of the boa construction tan had vanished. The great boa was uncoiling itself rapidly slithering out of the floor. People throughout the reptile house screamed and started heading for the exit. The Dudley boy accidentally tripped and land into the boa construction tank. By the time he got up, the glass reappeared back and trapped him inside. His parents screamed and got panic. The boa slid swiftly past Roxie and the boy.

‘Brazil, here I come. Thanks senorita,’ it said.

‘Anytime,’ she said and the boa slithered out of the reptile house.

The keeper of the reptile house was in shock.

‘How did it get out?’ he kept saying.

The next thing Roxie knew was her caretaker looking furious.

‘Roxie! You have gotten us all worried about you. A snake has gotten loose, it could have bitten you or eat you up,’ she said furiously.

She dragged Roxie out of the reptile house and made their way to the bus where the other children were sitting inside. Roxie made her way to the back seat of the bus. As she walked, she heard whispers and murmurs. ‘It’s all because of her we had to leave… if she was never around, thing like this would never happen.’

Roxie ignored all the others and sat quietly at the back. She wondered how she ended up in the Orphanage. She was told that a policeman found her in a burning house and brought her to the orphanage as her parents were nowhere to be found. She wondered what happen to her parents. Did they not love or care for her? Weren’t there any relatives of hers that were living? Couldn’t they take her in? All that was left was an X shape locket that could not be open. She wished someone would love her, take care of her and take her away from the orphanage.

Roxie Roxas

‘Fire!’

People were running around the neighborhood of the Gardens, helping each other to put away the fire of a burning house. No one knows how the fire started. The fire started without warning. Fire engine, police cars and ambulance came rushing to the scene to help the neighborhood. Soon the fire was put out within a few minutes.

‘Was there any witnesses who saw how the fire started?’ said the captain of the police squad.

‘Captain! We found a baby girl in the house. She somehow survived the fire,’ said his subordinate.

‘A baby girl?’ said the captain, looking extremely surprised. ‘What about her parents?’

‘There were no bodies recovered in the house.’

‘I see. So is there any detail of the baby girl?’

‘Yes. Her name is Roxie Iris Roxas, daughter of Cloud Roxas and Aerith Blanchett. They have just moved in last month.’ His subordinate answered, reading through the documents that he had.

‘So they just left and abandon their daughter behind?’

‘I don’t think so sir. According to some witnesses, they heard screams coming from the house, not long before the fire. It sounded as if they were going to be killed.’

‘I see. Does the baby have any relatives?’

The subordinate shook his head.

‘I guess we have to send her to the Orphanage. After the hospital checked the baby for any injuries, we will send the baby to the orphanage.’

‘Yes sir!’

The captain signed in some paper and went to his car while his subordinate went over to the ambulance to check on the baby. Once everything was done, the place was soon cleared from vehicles and people.

Once the baby was released from the hospital, the captain and is subordinate took the baby to the car and head for the Orphanage. As soon they reached the place, they came out of their vehicle and headed over to the Orphanage. The captain knocked on the door and a middle age woman answered the door.

‘Miss Annie?’ said the captain.

‘Yes?’ The woman replied.

‘I am Officer Thomas and this is my subordinate, Peter. Yesterday, there was a fire in the Gardens. We found a baby girl who survived the fire. Her parents were nowhere to be found. The authorities would like you to take her in,’ said the captain.

‘Oh my…’ Mrs Annie exclaimed. ‘I understand. I’ll take care of her.’

‘Thank you Mrs Annie.’ Peter gave her the baby girl. ’Her name is Roxie Iris Roxas. It was in our records. Her parents’ names were Cloud Roxas and Aerith Gainsborough. We are still looking for her parents. Any news, we will inform you. This belongs to the baby.’ Thomas handed her an X shaped locket. ‘We found it together with her. ’

‘I understand. Thank you officers.’ With that the officer left the orphanage and Mrs. Annie closed the door.

‘You’re one lucky girl.’ She whispered to the baby who was sleeping soundly in her arms.

And here is how our story begins.
